Kim Delaney, an American actress, is best known for her character detective Diane Russell on ABC's NYPD Blue series for which she was awarded an Emmy Award. Her appearances include All My Children Philly CSI: Miami & Army Wives. Delaney was the only daughter of a United Auto Workers executive and his wife, a housewife. She grew up in a family that included four brothers. When she was a kid she was aspired to become a court reporter. However, after graduating from high school and relocating in New York in the 1980s and began to model, she was hooked. As a teenager the first time she appeared as an actress was in the soap opera of 1980 All My Children. Delaney has appeared in a variety of TV movies, film and dramas after that. The professional life she has had is more successful than her private life. She has also experienced two divorces that failed and fought with alcohol addiction. The year 2005 was the time she lost custody of the only child that she had.
